Holiday Gift Guide 2012: Craft Beers

Give the gift of tasty beer this holiday season.
Thousands of years ago, as the glaciers melted, the water carved out the blackhand sandstone, which today forms the origin of Ohio\'s Hocking River. It\'s just a short walk west to Rockmill Farm. Luckily Rockmill brewers discovered that the water on their farm is nearly identical in mineral content to that of Wallonia, Belgium, where Belgian ale originated. This pure water -- and that rich tradition of Belgian farmhouse ale -- inspired their four brews. The water, combined with 100% organic yeast, hops and malt, give their brew its uniquely aromatic qualities and taste.

"The Rockmill Dubbel is patterned after a Belgian Trappist beer. The origin of the dubbel was a beer brewed in the Trappist Abbey of Westmalle in 1856. Westmalle Dubbel was imitated by other breweries, leading to the emergence of a style. Dubbels are now understood to be a fairly strong brown ale, with under-stated bitterness, fairly heavy body, and a pronounced fruitiness." - from the brewerSuggested Food Pairing: Smoked foods, aromatic cheeses, and rich desserts like tiramisu.
